I teach music to about 320 wonderful K-5 students a week. We are a special school that houses a "life-skills" program for students of varied ability. While I teach students with many traditional tools (sheet music, recorders, keyboards, percussion instruments), I also have integrated some dance and karaoke games that really increase student interest!

While I already have some supplemental video games that teach rhythm, pitch and other musical concepts, we are not yet into the next generation! There are some students in the life-skills program who absolutely love and excel at these games. I have one in particular who dances at an expert level. This is his chance to shine!

Basically, I am moving the music gaming into the next generation with a Playstation 3. Games like Beatles: Rock Band and Dance Dance Revolution really draw in students who are not as interested in traditional music activities. These games will eventually only be available on next generation consoles. I chose the Playstation 3 console because it could also serve as a blue-ray player and has other classroom applications.

I am always looking for the most modern and up-to-date ways of drawing kids interest. Technology absolutely fascinates children, and when they are playing, they hardly notice they are learning! You can help make more fun learning experiences for these kids, especially my life-skills kids, who have a special place in my heart. Thank you!
