This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Since deciding to become a dance educator I always wanted to teach in an urban school district. Not only did I want to teach students who looked like me but I wanted to share my love of dance with children that are not always fortunate enough to take dance classes.

As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, I see the many challenges my students face both in and out of the classroom.

As a teacher in a school with a large population of bilingual learners, I strive to connect all students through the universal language of dance. As my school's first dance teacher I have started a dance ensemble of 12 students ranging in grades third through fifth. They are learning essential skills that will last them a lifetime.

This project will ensure that as a dance ensemble we have the basics that are needed for performances, such as tights and leotards that will go underneath costumes. Also, by getting this project funded I ensure that the burden does not have to be put onto my parents when the school budget doesn't allow for the school to cover the cost. Having this project fully funded would mean a lot to both my students and myself. Thank you.
