My Students

I teach at a Title One Magnet Elementary School for the Arts. My students receive dance instruction once a week throughout the year.

I have been teaching dance for 12 years in the public education setting.

I teach dance to grades k-5. I like to give my students a broad curriculum of ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, modern, multicultural folk dance, choreography, and creative movement. I am ABT certified (American Ballet Theatre) for levels pre-primary through 5. I received the honor of Dance Educator of the Year for 2014.

My Project

I am requesting dance education books and videos to support my professional development and enhance my students learning. The arts are always the first to get budget cuts and I have to buy my own resources to create lessons for my class. If I can build a better support library for my self the students will be able to see live dances that my Title 1 kids would now normally get to see and learn new dance curriculum through the dance education books. My county does not offer that many dance trainings so I usually go to the State dance conference and research the rest on my own. I could really use the dance education books and videos.

I want to give my students the best dance education that they can receive especially in these young years.

My students deserve to get a taste of all the dance styles by me being able to create new and exciting dance lessons using the books. Also, I want them to be able to see live dance from the videos. My students cannot afford to go see professional dance companies so with the videos they can see what the dance style looks like.
