This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach at a school that is located just outside of Silicon Valley, in a town surrounded by fields of crops and hills. At our school, teachers work hard, the principal is amazing, and our parent club is involved and helpful. Although our students were affected by the school shut-down during the pandemic, they are making great progress, they're happy to be at school, and they love to learn.
I am requesting books by the author Dan Gutman for our school library.
Last summer, I worked with a team of teachers and volunteers to reorganize and update our school library to make it easier for students to find books that interest them. We now have monthly displays of themed books and author spotlights to highlight books our students might not have otherwise read. Readership is up and students are happy to visit the library each week to trade their books!
Dan Gutman is a hilarious author well known for his Weird School series. He has also written several picture books, easy readers, nonfiction books, graphic novels, and other series books that my students will love. I have requested several different series written by him, as well as books at every reading level, so all of the students, from the preschool students to the fifth graders, will be able to find something that they want to read. Thank you for helping us get these books!
