My Students
My Kindergarten and 1st grade students are diverse, multi-lingual, multi-cultural sponges of new knowledge. They are inquisitive and respectful. They are curious and kind.
They absolutely deserve a classroom they can be proud of and materials that are quality and reliable.
As the area is diverse, it is also a low socio-economic area where breakfast and lunch are provided daily for every student. The majority of my students are English Language Learners, meaning English is not their first language nor spoken at home.
My Project
This year has been my first year *ever* teaching a grade other than Kindergarten. While some may think the jump from Kinder to 1st grade isn't so wide, I would agree but mention the caveat that there is still a gap between the two grades and that's what makes them so unique.
First graders aren't just familiarizing themselves with numbers, but the relationships between numbers, fact families, strategies for addition and subtraction.
Those were all topics I merely provided the foundation for in Kinder. In first grade, they are expected to expand on those. This hand2mind Daily Math Fluency Kit would really help with daily spiral review.
