My Project

Creating opportunities for students to develop life skills is a cornerstone of my classroom, especially through our Daily Living Jobs routine. Each afternoon, my students take on responsibilities that support the care and organization of our shared space—helping foster independence, responsibility, and a sense of ownership. To support this vital part of our day, I’m requesting a shredder, pencil sharpener, laminator, and label maker. These tools aren’t just for teacher use—they’re actively integrated into the students’ tasks. For example, students shred outdated papers, sharpen pencils for the next day, laminate classroom visuals, and use the label maker to help keep materials organized and accessible.

These tools will provide meaningful hands-on experiences that reinforce executive functioning skills, promote self-reliance, and create a more organized, welcoming classroom environment.

They also align with functional IEP goals many of my students are working toward. Right now, we’re relying on borrowed or outdated equipment that often breaks down or isn’t student-friendly. With the addition of these reliable, durable tools, students will have the chance to practice real-world skills in a safe, structured environment while contributing to the classroom community in a purposeful way.
