My students need materials for making words. Students will be introduced to high frequency words in their reading and need practice visualizing their words to learn them.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Last school year I introduced Daily 5 to my students and experienced excellent results in differentiating instruction. Students advanced so much in reading by making high frequency words in various ways. Variety is the spice of life and much needed in learning too.
My students are typical 5 and 6 year olds who are interested in learning to read and write.
Our classroom provides a print-rich environment and many opportunities for the children to be involved in reading and writing. This age group enjoys guidance, but also want to be independent and experience learning on their own by experimenting with materials to help them succeed in their literacy goals.
My Project
Our class participates in Daily 5 activities that promote differentiated instruction in literacy. One of the Daily 5 components is the Word Work center. At this center students practice their individual lists of high frequency words in a variety of ways. Currently, there are 5 different Word Work Activities available to students. The materials I am requesting would allow students to have an additional 4 activities to vary the way students form their high frequency words.
The Uppercase Alphabet & Number and Lowercase Alphabet Dough Stampers would help students practice their sight words by stamping the word in play-doh. The Lace-A-Word Lowercase Beads will help students manipulate bead letters in order to make their words. The Lakeshore Word Building Blocks will also help students build words. The different material to make words provide visual and hands-on practice for students. The students will enjoy using the different materials to create the new words they are working on mastering.
Variety is the spice of life!
Students will greatly benefit from having various activities to choose from while practicing their high frequency words. Your donation will allow me to open 4 additional centers where students can go to for practicing their words. The more practice students get in writing the words using the various materials being requested, the faster that they will be able to master their words and improve their reading.
