This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students need your help! I teach second grade to ESL students who speak Spanish at home. These families come from all over Latin America and have come to the United States to truly achieve "the American dream". My school is a high poverty school, however, and I am looking to better connect parents with their children's education.
Although most of my students speak Spanish and English fluently, almost none of my students are literate in Spanish, their native language. Also, very few of my students' families speak English and have difficulty reading with their children at home.
These exciting books in Spanish will allow my students and their families to read together at home, fostering students' literacy skills in Spanish and allowing parents to share the love of reading with their children.
You will make it possible for my students to read with their families, something many of us took for granted growing up. I just know my students will be clamoring to bring these books home, to curl up on the couch with mom or dad and delve into the wonderful world of reading!
