This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are the first cybersecurity program in our county. Over 70 students will learn to build, program and network computers to defend against hackers. The demand for cybersecurity professionals is huge and we hope our new program opens the door for many students.
Our high school services a wide variety of students from all over the world.
Our students hail from over 40 different countries and speak 23 different languages spoken. Additionally, many of our children are on free and reduced lunch and don't have the access to technology at home such as Internet or computers. It is these students that we hope to support the most by exposing them to a wide variety of hands-on experiences. We need to educate these students in the latest technology using the best methods possible.
My Project
My students need small, affordable computers with which they can learn programming and networking. The Raspberry Pi 2 offers the the most complete system available. Your donation will put the most current technology in our student's hands. The Raspberry Pi 2, monitor and wireless mouse is a complete computer system. With these computers students will learn to function two operating systems (Windows 10 and Linux), program in a several computer languages (Python, C, and C++). Additionally, they'll learn introductory networking (wireless and wired) and basic computer construction.
Each Raspberry Pi 2 setup will serve 2 students per period for each of our six periods. Your donation will impact 28 students a day. Since the Raspberry Pi's are so durable we can use them year after year. Having a Raspberry Pi 2 will allow students to take ownership of their learning being able to explore areas of computing different limited by our infrastructure. Because the Raspberry Pi 2 creates an independent network separate from that of the school’s network, students can freely experiment without fear of damaging the school's network.
Cybersecurity is one of the fastest growing fields in the technology sector.
Additionally, the jobs that are available pay well; allowing our low income students to rise above poverty. A solid cybersecurity education in high school will open doors for our students that many have never imagined.
