Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Be respectful! Be responsible! Be safe! Be Kind! These four expectations are posted throughout our school. All students are held to the same standard, but some are still experiencing cyberbullying. My students are creating an Anti-Bullying program to share with all classes so ALL students feel safe.
I teach in a Title I school with 96% of students qualifying for free/reduced lunch program in an urban neighborhood.
My students are amazing thinkers with great potential, but they are growing up in an area of high poverty and high crime. The school we spend our days in is filled with caring teachers who put their heart and soul into creating learning experiences for all students that will help them each reach their full potential. As a teacher here, we often spend large amounts of our personal money buying materials, including books, for our classrooms.
My Project
After reading an article in a recent issue of Weekly Reader Newspaper, my students were inspired to share the causes, dangers, effects, and consequences of cyberbullying with the entire school. They would like to share the Townsend Press book "Bullying in Schools" in every K-5 class. They also want to research other anti-bullying activities on the Netbook that they could share throughout all the classes too. Students have already identified several songs to share during their presentation, but they need a docking station to play them on. Picture that, 5th graders teaching their peers about bullying, so powerful. I see some typically unmotivated students really getting involved and these materials would help support them in their efforts to spread the word.
