Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The local community and students have taught me so much of what goes on in their personal lives and they share their unique cultures, traditions, and beliefs. These kids encounter difficult circumstances and come from low-income families. (Just like me!!) I want these students to have the best supplies because they deserve the best!

A tool my art department needs is a paper cutter that can keep up with our paper cutting demands.

To save on cost, we get drawing paper, watercolor paper, and canvas sheets in bulk large sizes but then have to turn around and cut it down to size for the needs of the variety of projects we do. The paper cutter we have is not suitable for their needs. It's those old school metal Guillotine cutters that have dull blades and you can never get an exact cut. Today I was cutting paper for our last projects of the year. I am only able to cut a couple sheets at a time with our old cutter and it took me a very long time to complete the process. This time would be better spent rotating around my room helping my students artistically grow. As Pablo Picasso said, "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up."

This new paper cutter will cut down on our time on cutting paper because it can cut a huge stack all at once instead of a few sheets at a time. For example instead of spending 30 minutes cutting practice paper, I could be done in 2 minutes instead. They also learn how to cut and measure precisely using Math!!Thank you for your consideration and support in helping reach our goal.
