Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach Computer Applications to middle school students. The student population comprises 53% female students and 47% male students. The school enrolls 89% economically disadvantaged students. The demographics are Hispanic
87%, Black 11%, White 2%, Two or more races <1%.
Many of my students only speak Spanish.
I pair students up to work on assignments. The assignments are designed to give my students an edge in the real world. I want my students to earn revenue from the skills learned in my class.
Silhouette Cameo is a cutting machine used to create computer-generated designs. Students can display their creativity and make money at the same time. The students will receive classroom instruction and have access to online tutorials. These skills will give the students an edge in the real world and an opportunity to become entrepreneurs.
This opportunity will develop communication skills, people skills, and business sense. The students will work in small groups to collaborate on designs and production.
More than half of students from low‑income households
