My Students

My students are a group of the most wonderful young adults diagnosed with intellectual/developmental disabilities/Autism you will ever meet. They live life to the fullest. They range in age from 14 to 20 and can stay with me until 21 years old. We are located in what is a high poverty high school in Charleston, SC and more than half the students come from low income homes.

My students enjoy learning and greet each day with a smile and positive attitude.

They love taking part in all that high school has to offer and make friends wherever they go. My students tackle their classwork much like they tackle life, all in with a positive attitude. They enjoy being at school and learning new skills.

In the age of COVID-19, we have had to shift our vocational learning to opportunities that we have to create on-campus. We'd like to start a school-based enterprise and could use these requested resources to create and sell products. There are so many skills that students can acquire from creating and operating a school-based enterprise.

My Project

I have requested a Brother DIY Cutting Machine and vinyl. I will use these materials to teach my students vocational skills. We have had to move from community-based vocational opportunities to on-campus vocational activities because of COVID-19. I want to create a sustainable vocational opportunity for my students.

I will use these materials to teach my students how to make products, market products, sell products, and invest profits into their school-based enterprise.

There are so many opportunities for learning when creating and running a school-based enterprise. Students will team up with the Marketing and Finance classes to learn how to market their products and how to manage any profits.
