This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our STEM center, students love designing and building with cardboard—from arcade games and Rube Goldberg machines to mazes and prototypes. But cutting thick cardboard can be tough, especially for younger students or those with limited hand strength. That’s why we’re hoping to add electric cardboard scissors to our toolkit!

These powered scissors make it easy and safe for students to cut through cardboard, foam, and other materials.

With this tool, students can focus on creativity and engineering instead of struggling with dull blades or sore hands. It also makes our space more inclusive, allowing every student—no matter their skill level—to take part in hands-on making.

Students will use the electric scissors to design, prototype, and refine their creations in upcoming STEM challenges. From constructing vehicles to building 3D models and architectural designs, this tool will spark confidence and innovation. Our motto in the STEM Center is simple: “Dream it, design it, build it!”
