Our elementary STEAM students love visiting our STEAM class every week for 60 minutes. It is the perfect space for hands-on learning that integrates science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.
We start our class reconnecting with one another, learning about the day's challenge/activity and expectations, and participating in a conversation that aims to inspire teams.
Once students have learned about the day's challenge, they form teams and start brainstorming solutions. Using materials available in our room they work through the Engineering Design Process to work out their solution.
My Project
We use a variety of materials in STEAM when engineering solutions to our team challenges. Students work collaboratively to solve real-world problems. For this project they will use tools and resources that come at a cost, though!
Each tool and resource will have an associated cost that teams will need to budget for.
Teams will need to maintain their budget to be sure they keep within the constraints of the project.
The materials in this request will help students to not only achieve their engineering goals, but learn cost analysis, spending, and balancing a budget. The scissors, cutters, and cut free gloves will not be free. They will come at a cost. Teams will need to judiciously choose which materials will help them to reach their goals and whether they are "in the budget!"
