Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I'm a 4th grade teacher in the Milwaukee Public Schools system.
My students come from broken homes, foster homes, and low poverty areas.
Many are faced with challenges that I've never dreamed of. 100% of my school is free lunch, and all students also receive breakfast for free. Most of my students come from Spanish speaking homes. Many of their parents do not speak English at all. My students are the ones teaching their parents the English. They thrive on learning and show me their S.W.A.G. --Success, Willpower, Attitude, Goals--daily. They take pride in their success and their learning each and everyday, no matter how hard life is outside of my classroom.
My Project
My students really enjoy our mindful minutes each day. We typically meet during breakfast in a circle on the floor and have some great discussions. Sometimes we continue our talks into the afternoon right before we go home for the day.
With these Carry Me Cushions, my students will be much more comfortable during our mindful meetings than they would be sitting on our hard classroom floor.
They can take them anywhere they want in the class and even the school if need be!
We often have activities to attend in other classrooms such as reading buddies. They can take their Carry Me Cushions along with them and they can be cute n cozy with their reading buddy instead of sitting in the hard floor.
