Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a 99% Latino low-income middle school. Most of the families in the school are employed through the farm industry. Our students are bright and curious about the world around them.
95% of the students have English as a Second Language. Most of their reading levels are lower than grade level. We are wanting to offer ways to continue students curiosity about the world through reading about current science. Our school doesn't have funding for this supply.
We are asking for a classroom subscription to Weekly Reader: Current Science magazine.
With this subscription we will be reading and writing about current science today. The more science-literacy youth have today the better educated decisions they will make as adults.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
