Current Science and Social Studies For First Graders

Help me give my students information, lessons, activities and projects for current events occurring in the areas social studies and science. We have no materials to teach social studies and our science materials are now twenty years old.

My Project

We live in a constant changing world that many of my students do not know. My students live in a rural area and many of them have not been outside of the county in which they live. Your donation would provide current events and scientific advancement information to my students. Knowing more about the world that they live in will help them understand their place in the world and help them to be better citizens of the world.

Not only will the students learn science and social studies but they will work on their reading skills.

Students will practice reading and comprehension. They will practice finding main ideas and details. They will do sequencing activities from information provided in the text. The magazines also provide students with excellent examples of text features such as maps, fact boxes, charts, and graphs that they need to know how to use to understand more about the text that they are reading. These magazines offer so many opportunities and possibilities for my students to learn.

Currently we are using science text that are twenty years old and we do not have any history or social studies materials. Scholastic News and Science Spin will provide information, lessons, activities and projects to help my first graders learn.
