My students need Scholastic News Magazine in order to understand the world around them.

My Students
Every morning, students enter the classroom eager to talk to me about the latest news. They are curious about the presidential election, the refugee crisis, and relationships with Iran and Cuba. My students want to make an impact on their community and the world.
My students are critical and creative thinkers.
They are curious about current events and their role in shaping our community. We listen to CNN Student news every morning but we often do not have the context for information we hear. They love being informed through reading -- scholastic magazine will help my students accomplish this.
My Project
The Scholastic Magazines will be used as a shared reading activity. Every one of my students regardless of their reading level will be exposed to grade level nonfiction text. Current news sparks their interest, thus increasing engagement and critical thinking. My students will stay informed and understand the different perspectives of issues.
Knowledge is power!
Being informed leads to students forming their own identity of who they are and what kind of activists they would like to become. It gives them a better idea of the many issues our country is dealing with and where we stand with other countries. Our youth has so much potential - this project will lead them to becoming informed global citizens.
