After having Scholastic News in the past I know my students faces light up with every new issue! Students love reading narrative texts but I also like exposing my students to informational texts as well! I think Scholastic News really engages their readers and the images and graphics help to pull students in to what's happening currently in our world. I love to have hot topics that create discussion but also students can reference a credible source where they know the information is reliable! Students would be able to use these magazines to help them develop research ideas and as sources for their writing projects.
They will also be great to spotlight during independent reading times where students will have more opportunities to choose what they want to read on their own.
Depending on the topic these will also be great to support our social studies period and will serve as an additional source of information that students are familiar with!
