Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from low-income homes and a high poverty neighborhood. They come to school hungry and with a number of challenges. I see their eager faces every day as they show up to school willing to learn.
My students are motivated and excited about learning new things, reading interesting stories, and making lasting friendships.
Their enthusiasm is contagious and it inspires me to create lessons with fun activities. The majority of my students struggle in reading comprehension and writing.
My Project
Many of my students are unaware of interesting current events outside of their community. The Scholastic Magazines will give my students the opportunity to read about topics and people from various parts of the world.
The articles in the magazines will provide my students with informational text passages that will help them springboard into a writing activity.
This will help them prepare for the writing demands of the Smarter Balance assessment in the Spring.
Unfortunately, resources are very limited at my school and a new pencil sharpener will go a long way to help my students have a pencil ready to write their compositions.
