My Students
Our students need to be connected to the world around them, using kid friendly news. So often, our students do not see beyond the community they live in and the school they attend. This project could allow our third graders to see the world beyond their daily lens.
There are 26 third grade students in our urban school setting.
Our students come to school every day ready learn what we have to offer. So many of our students come to school dealing with their own personal issues, and they do not see beyond themselves. Students need to learn about the world around them in order to become productive citizens in our society.
My Project
Our students will use Scholastic News to learn about the world around them, practice our close reading strategies, and to have some fun along the way through interactive videos, games, and brain bending puzzles that are offered from Scholastic News. Our students will have a richer experience in Social Studies and Science because of this project which focuses on current events in our world.
This project will make a difference, because it will allow students to use their literacy skills in a real world kind of way.
Students will become future citizens who are aware of what is happening in the world around them. This experience will help our students to connect to the real world and reach for an education beyond the walls of our classroom.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
