Help me give my students access to current events and engaging non-fiction texts with a yearly subscription to Scholastic News. This gives us a way to access not only great articles, but videos as well.
I teach third grade in a suburban setting outside Seattle. We are a busy group of students who love to learn and share our knowledge with others. Our school reflects the diversity that comes from being welcoming to immigrants: 10 languages spoken and 72% poverty living in temporary housing or homeless. We are blessed with many forms of instruction but we need support in authentic non fiction texts that teach about the world around us.
Our students have varied access to non fiction text that is written at third grade level.
We don't have a current Social Studies text book to use with our students. We are always looking for engaging texts to help them meet our Social Studies standards as well as learning how to navigate non fiction texts.
My Project
Third graders are hungry to learn about the world around them. Scholastic News provides current events and will help to teach Social Justice in real-life situations. The non-fiction articles are engaging and help kids to learn new things about the people and events that shape our ever-changing world. Scholastic News is also a way to help prepare students for state testing. It is full of great resources for authentic engagement for the entire school year. This is a wonderful resource that can be difficult for families to pay for at the beginning of a school year. Thank you for helping get this great resource into the students' hands.
