Current Events at our Fingertips with Scholastic News Magazines!
Help me give my students "Scholastic News" magazine each and every week that would be their very own. It would be such a great way to motivate them!

My Project
Giving students a new "Scholastic News" magazine each and every week that would be their very own would be such a great way to motivate them!
We are in a Title I school where many students do not have reading materials at home.
They are not exposed to many current events or material with the high-interest level they need. Many of these students are inquisitive and curious about the world around them and soak up new material like sponges when it is presented in an interesting format.
"Scholastic News" magazine could be used in many aspects of everyday teaching. They would be great practice for fluency time, where students are practicing reading out loud smoothly and clearly. During Differentiated Reading Instruction, students would be working on specific skills they need to hone, such as summarizing, finding the main idea, or even answering questions. Since this magazine covers current events as well as science topics, it would be used in those content areas as well. This would be a resource that would impact each and every student on a daily basis. In addition, by ordering a couple more subscriptions than there are students, extras can be kept in the classroom library for future students as well as continued use by myself. Time also provides an interactive digital edition to be used whole class and web access to supplemental materials that can enhance lessons taught using this resource.
Motivation is a key factor in children's learning.
They need to know the relevance of the information or skill they are learning or practicing. "Scholastic News" would provide that motivation!
