Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My fabulous fifth graders live in the small, unincorporated community of Keyes, in central California. They are a diverse population, representing a variety of ethnic groups. These students were so looking forward to the start of the school year and returning to some sort of normalcy. Unfortunately they will, again, be learning from home.
My Project
My students have been stuck at home for the last five months with few opportunities to read physical books. There are a variety of sites offering books to read online, which have been extremely useful during the stay-at-home orders. But their homes are not rich with the printed word and they have limited options for acquiring books. As we start the school year, I want to make sure they have a variety of options to improve their literacy skills and chance to curl up with a good book every day.
