My Students
Do you remember what it was like sitting at your desk as your teacher taught yet another lesson? You would hear the words coming out of their mouths but you didn't fully understand. Then your teacher would say "lets play a game!" Then it would all just "click". My students are awaiting that moment.
My 2nd graders attend a high poverty elementary school in the South Bronx.
They have to face a lot of adversity on a daily basis. Nothing is handed to them and they have to work extra hard in a tough environment. Fortunately my students are too young to fully understand their shortcomings. I try to make every school day a happy and fulfilling experience. The walls of my classroom is their safe haven. A place where they know they are safe, appreciated, and loved.
My Project
I am requesting learning centers for the students in my classroom. Learning isn't always easy and teaching this new generation of hands on learners is also a challenge. Children are used to hands on activities such as PlayStations, Xboxes, PSPs, etc. The classic way of teaching is no longer as effective. My students need hands on fun materials to help them learn to their full capacity. The learning centers that I am requesting will make learning fun. Students will be able to learn the material while playing interactive games with their peers. These games will help them with their literacy skills. It will help them to become better readers and writers. These games will help prepare them for success in the classroom for many years to come. They will be learning and becoming betters students all while having fun and enjoying themselves. What better way to enrich young minds then to disguise the strategies being taught with a fun and exciting game?
My goal as a teacher is to enrich my students minds and help them achieve to their utmost potential.
I want to make a lasting impact on my students during the short year that they are in my care. Being able to teach them the fundamentals of reading and writing through learning centers is something that they will be able to carry on with them for many years to come. I want you to help me provide my students with a gift that can never be taken away. The gift of knowledge.
