My Students
"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go!" - Dr. Seuss. Having these books will give my students the ability to read on their own.
I have an eager group of kindergarteners who are ready to learn!
Our school has a full day kindergarten program and we utilize every minute. Many of my students come in without any previous schooling so they do not know their letters, shapes, or colors that are typically taught in preschool. This makes our starting point different than where others would be starting if their class went through preschool. Nonetheless, they are very eager to learn and make amazing leaps and bounds throughout the school year.
My Project
Students being able to read allows them to go anywhere! When you are reading a book you can travel anywhere from Africa, to the 1950s. I want to inspire these children to grasp the reading strategies we have learned and apply that to reading books on their own.
Imagine a world without reading.
That's what my students come into my room with at the beginning of each year. We go from learning letters and sounds to incorporating that into reading. This will make a huge difference for my students being able to expand their vocabulary and being confident in the skills they have learned this year.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
