My students need a classroom set of scientific calculators.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Culbert's classroom raised $910

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When you walk into Ms. Culbert's Chemistry classroom the phrase "I matter. This matters. My future matters." is displayed across the front of the classroom in bright colors. Students are not only learning about Chemistry, the study of matter, but that THEY matter and their futures matter.
I teach Chemistry to 130 11th grade students at a small charter school in Los Angeles.
Our student body has a high population of English Language Learners and about 20% are Special Education students. In addition, 100% of our students receive free lunch. Despite the many challenges my students face both at home and at school, they are still highly motivated to explore, achieve and excel in the classroom.
My Project
Chemistry is theoretical and experimental study of all matter. In my classroom, students are exploring the world around them through inquiry based chemistry. Mathematics is the language in which chemistry can be understood. From stichometry to thermodynamics to statistical mechanics, mathematics and chemistry are deeply intertwined. My students use mathematics on a daily basis whether it be doing experiments to calculate the number of moles of copper in a penny or exploring the theoretical properties of energy and heat. In order for this deeper thinking and discovery, calculators are a necessary tool.
Donations to this project will ensure that all of my curious chemists will have access to calculators in order to succeed in chemistry during classroom inquiry, laboratories, after school tutoring, and assessments.
