I need these books in order to better address issues of systemic racism that are specifically present in my classroom community, at my school, and in my school district as a whole.

My Students
Our peaceful classroom is the primary age level (three, four, and five year olds) of a diverse, Montessori public school.
We live in a densely populated area of a large city that shares many of the challenges facing other cities of this size.
As teachers, we are sensitive to the fact that many of our students struggle to get their basic needs met. Many of our students come to school carrying the heavy load of some kind of significant trauma. Our classroom is a safe environment where children pursue their natural curiosities to discover and learn how to peacefully contribute to their community.
My Project
By acquiring these professional development materials, I will educate myself so that I am able to ensure equitable education for all of my students.
These awesome books will help me to address and work to eliminate systemic racism present in our education system.
I hope that these resources will also help me to reflect on my own biases and how I can minimize the negative impact of those biases on my students. Additionally, my goal is that these resources will help me to recognize and fight against injustices and racial inequities in my classroom, our school and our school district. The books on this list will also help me to facilitate a classroom environment where children can spot social injustices and feel empowered to take action when they see those injustices at play.
I also have included a few storage bins that I will use to store classroom supplies and materials.
