My Project

I have the pleasure of working with various students at varying academic levels across several social groups. Many of my students are from rural areas and cannot easily access a wide range of literature that encompasses LGTBQIA+, BIPOC, and neurodivergent authors and narrators. Additionally, many of my students have struggled to remain engaged with full-length novels that are neither new nor relevant to their lives.

In my classroom, I want students to view themselves as readers, writers, and critical thinkers.

My students are kind, empathetic and open-minded to learning about and furthering their understanding of perspectives and cultures that may differ from theirs. My role as their English teacher is to help them develop as critical thinkers and enter the world as caring, empathetic human beings.

In the 2022-2023 school year, I will teach ninth-, eleventh-and twelfth-grade English and expect my students to read multiple full-length novels as the year progresses. This, however, requires access to various texts that students ~ want ~ to read. Thus, I have found three readers that I believe students will ENJOY reading and that are especially relevant to students' lives: "If I Was Your Girl" by Meredith Russo, "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" by Mark Haddon, and "Home" by Toni Morrison.
