This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are energetic, creative, and deeply connected to music—especially hip-hop and rap. They light up when classroom content reflects their identities and lived experiences. Unfortunately, many traditional texts fail to engage them or feel relevant to their lives. That’s why I’m building a classroom library that includes high-interest books focused on hip-hop culture, history, and influential artists.
These books will serve as mirrors and windows—helping students see themselves in literature while also gaining new perspectives.
With these resources, I aim to increase literacy skills, spark meaningful discussions, and foster a lifelong love of reading through content that speaks their language—literally and figuratively.
