Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 5th-grade students come from many diverse backgrounds, with more than 80 percent speaking English as a second language. My students speak a variety of languages at home, including Spanish, Arabic, Tongan, Burmese, Somali, Vietnamese, and more! More than 95% of my students receive free lunch and are met with unique challenges of living in poverty on a daily basis. Despite these hardships, these children work hard to overcome these challenges and learn.

These children are happy, loving, hard-working, inquisitive, creative, eager to learn, and excited to be at school.

My Project

My students need more books for our classroom library! I work hard to instill a love of reading in my students, and that requires a lot of books!

Research has shown that children connect with literature more if they are able to see themselves represented in the characters and settings of the books.

The collection of books I am asking for are inclusive, culturally relevant to students, and will engage them in their many interests.

With your help, we can foster a life-long love of reading in these students with books that show them that they are capable of achieving their dreams, despite their hardships.
