Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our classroom is filled with students from many different backgrounds. We read daily and need more books that better represent who we are.
Having culturally relevant books is important in helping children connect with their own identity and develop empathy for others.
These books will help expand our perspectives on the world and will foster a sense of belonging.
It is also important to have books at many different levels. In our 2nd-grade classroom, we have students who are non-readers as well as students already reading at a 3rd-grade level and all the other levels in between.
These collections of books will help fill our leveled book baskets with books at our levels that represent who we are.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
