Cultural Experience Tour 2017

My students need your help to experience first-hand the Spanish culture they have been studying.

My Students

Spanish Club members from a small rural community in South Georgia will be participating in a Cultural Experience Tour to Puerto Rico in July 2017. This is a very small community and school, and we have a very diverse group going on this trip. They were instrumental in our two main service projects this year which included fundraising to provide shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, and the Christmas Posada in which the students gather, package, and deliver meals for five less fortunate families in our community. Our area was devastated by tornadoes and our kids stopped working toward the trip in order to help local families rebuild their lives.

What better opportunity for these 20 students to truly experience the Spanish culture, than by interacting with the language, history, and geography in Puerto Rico.

This group comes from all different socioeconomic backgrounds and they are so excited about this opportunity, as some have never even left South Georgia. We have been working hard to raise the money, but since our area is so small, resources are limited.

My Project

Learning Spanish takes on a new meaning when you can take the students out of the classroom and place them in the middle of a different culture. Going on this tour to Puerto Rico will give these students a chance to interact with people of the Spanish culture, while exploring the island's history, geography, food, religion, and government.

I believe that we must find ways to engage our students globally with authentic, interactive learning experiences that will connect them with others around the world.

Your generosity will help insure that my students get to experience another culture first-hand which is a chance of a lifetime for many, and will give them a better awareness and appreciation for other cultures.
