Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am fortunate enough to teach scholars who are always on the edge of their seats, eager to learn something new!
With this project, students will be able to experience an in-class celebration of Cultural Diversity Day by receiving books that feature people of different cultural backgrounds with varying hair textures, colors, lengths, and styles in order to teach empathy for other cultures and to ultimately decrease bullying.
Kids should not have to experience teasing because of their hair type. Unfortunately, students who are within the minority ethnic groups at school and who have unique hairstyles and hair textures among other cultural differences standout, many times with negative attention from other students who have a large population on campus and don't understand the differences, nor able to appreciate it. Students in my class will learn to appreciate each other, have empathy for others who are being mistreated due to appearances, and learn to have appreciation and compassion for their fellow peers, despite how they may look and their cultural background.
To be able to provide children with awesome culturally diverse and inclusive experience is great. Not only are student books for Read-Alouds and small group learning available in this project, but teacher lessons & activity books to teach empathy for different cultural groups will be provided!
Lastly, snacks to enjoy during the celebration will be provided for kids to further enjoy this experience. Hands-on team building games and activities from one of this project teacher books will take place after students enjoy the snacks. This is a celebration filled with reading, snacks, and games that is sure to teach students to work toward alleviating suffering from bullying and racial discord.
