My Project

This project is about empowering my students to become custodians of their cultural heritage through digital storytelling. I am requesting a high-quality camera and lights to facilitate the creation of immersive interviews with elders, adults, and each other while engaging in cultural activities. These resources will enable the production of high-quality multimedia content that can be used in various student projects like websites, books, news articles, videos, and as a foundation for a larger digital place-based stories initiative.

My students exhibit a genuine interest in learning from elders and community members, reflecting their commitment to preserving cultural legacies.

These tools will not only enhance their technical skills in filming, lighting, and conducting interviews but also nurture their empathy and understanding of their culture.

The ultimate goal extends beyond immediate projects; it aims to lay the groundwork for an interactive map hosting digital place-based stories. Through integrating videos, audio recordings, images, and drawings at specific locations, my students will contribute to a vibrant, interconnected digital space where stories come alive, fostering understanding and appreciation for their culture. This project is a significant step toward empowering students as digital storytellers and preserving invaluable cultural narratives for generations to come.
