This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students will gain cultural awareness by learning about the traditions and customs associated with the Chinese Lunar New Year. They will also engage in activities to celebrate and appreciate the significance of this festival and celebrate the year of the Snake: a year filled with wisdom and transformation- the perfect lessons for my freshman. As active members of my classroom, they will be decorating our classroom with Lunar Year books, dragons, banners, and a Lunar Tree.

Engaging students in a hands-on activity where they create traditional Chinese crafts such as bead making, Lunar New Year Lego building, paper lanterns, red envelopes, and bingo!

Students will be rotating through a series of station in order to celebrate the Chinese New Year after tapping into their background knowledge and reading a selected passage on the history and significance of the Lunar New Year.

The items in this project will help student explore the symbolism behind the red envelopes as they put together their own red package filled with “lucky money pockets”, chocolates, and snacks while enjoying hot chocolate.
