This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Food insecurity plagues our school and community, leaving many families struggling to access nutritious meals. This pervasive issue not only affects physical health but also hampers educational outcomes and perpetuates cycles of poverty. To combat this problem, our project aims to educate students about food insecurity while providing tangible solutions through STEM education.

Students will engage in hands-on learning experiences with materials such as an aerogarden, butterfly raising kit, ladybug raising kit, seeds, pollinator hotel, garden STEM book, repotting mats, glass marbles, and a root viewer growing kit.

These tools will enable them to understand the importance of sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, and the interdependence of ecosystems in addressing food insecurity.

To speak out about the issue, students will collaborate on awareness campaigns, advocating for policy changes to improve food access in our community. Additionally, they will utilize their STEM knowledge to design and implement innovative solutions, such as community gardens and pollinator habitats, to address food deserts and promote food sovereignty.

By equipping students with both knowledge and practical skills, we empower them to become agents of change in addressing food insecurity, fostering resilience, and creating a healthier, more sustainable future for our school and community.
