Students in my Pre-K 3 through 5th-grade elementary school are creative, curious, and bright but are always looking for new ways to be challenged. Additionally, our district is placing a strong emphasis on kindness and mindfulness as we try to prepare our students to be conscientious, successful lifelong learners with an understanding and appreciation of the world around them, both locally and globally.
Our student population is diversifying, and we are all living in a global society.
Our students need to learn about themselves and others to best prepare for a world continuing to unfold in new and exciting ways.
My Project
Students need to be exposed to new ideas, differing cultures, and the understanding that we live in many ways with varying customs, beliefs, and resources around the globe. Our library's nonfiction collection could stand to become more robust to help aid these goals, and I hope to use these resources as a springboard for discussions, research, and student-driven projects.
Adding these resources to our media center collection will help students learn not only about their own backgrounds but also those of their classmates and community members in a way that is inclusive and supportive.
