This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

First graders are excellent explorers and I want to be able to do more in my classroom to support their natural curiosity for the world around them. Often district curriculums emphasize the importance of math and reading with a detailed scope and sequence for each but teachers are often left with less guidance and support when it comes to science.

With your support, these supplies will allow me to build a classroom that encourages students to explore, ask questions, and think critically about the natural phenomena that surround them every day!

I want to set up a science center in my classroom with a small table, a microscope, some slides to investigate, and books or magazines related to what the students are viewing. Next to this observation and exploration table I'll have the whiteboard easel to display pictures and other materials related to their investigation. On the whiteboard side, students will be able to draw pictures of what they're seeing under the microscope. It will be a space where students have room to investigate and build concrete connections to the materials they're exploring.
