Help me give my students the materials needed for a successful year with items that will help promote computer education as well as creative projects to build positive relationships allowing them to build a more comfortable learning environment.
When the COVID pandemic hit, it negatively impacted students and their families financially. I am from a district with a high poverty rate. As a district, we are low on Chromebook chargers and these kids' families do not have the means to purchase one. Even having a few extra on hand allows me to help these students charge their devices to complete their work and be successful in the classroom.
We only have one computer lab and it does not allow us all to have a desktop computer.
Therefore, some kids have to complete work on their Chromebooks. My district does not give access to my students to print in my computer lab. I requested a printer, because we incorporate positive mental health assignments the students can print and keep for themselves. We also use computer coding to create projects and they love to print them. Allowing them to do so leaves them feeling accomplished and confident. I use these to hang in my room to create a family-like atmosphere.
The COVID pandemic has negatively impacted our student's mental health. Just a few things my students deal with on a daily basis are anxiety, depression, isolation, and a lack of focus. My job as a teacher is to create a classroom environment where they feel more comfortable. This will allow us to create better relationships with each other, resulting in a better learning environment. Some of the materials I have requested such as the coloring books, materials, and games will allow what I like to call "brain breaks." This will allow my students to reset if they are feeling overwhelmed and anxious. The games will allow a fun way to communicate with their classmates and make friends. This will make some feel more included and less stressed.
