Cultivate Little Readers

My students need 26 new books for their classroom library with titles from "The Lion and the Mouse" to "I Want To Be A Zookeeper".

My Headstart students can make your heart melt, and they deserve a quality classroom library! I teach preschool students in a high-need community. Sadly, the local library is in a dangerous area, so they don't have much exposure to high-quality picture books.

Since we don't have a classroom library with interesting, age-appropriate books, I order books from the library. When I have new books in the classroom from the library, the children love to pretend to be the teacher, and take turns reading the books to each other. The books have to be returned after three weeks, and when I hear them ask for the stories to be read to them after the books are returned, I have to say no. How can you say no to kids that want to hear a story, especially with students that are so attentive, and want to talk and draw pictures about the story after story time?

I am asking for some of their favorite picture books to help build a classroom library. The books I am requesting can also be used to reinforce preschool themes, like numbers and shapes. Giving them books that they enjoy that can also teach them skills is a great way to cultivate life-long learners.
