My Students
My first graders come from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds with different perspectives, and experiences. They are English-language learners, and students with and without disabilities. Most of them are from low socioeconomic households and qualify for free lunch. We are part of a Title I public school in New York City.
Even with the challenges that come from the current pandemic, my first graders are challenging themselves to be the best that they can be as students and as human beings.
My first graders are inquisitive and avid learners. They are inspirations to themselves and others around them. I am very proud of their perseverance, strive, and hard work. Please help me make sure they have the materials they need to keep learning and growing.
My Project
My first graders will use Scholastic News and Science Spin to read, learn, and discuss about science and current events.
Scholastic News & Science Spin will help my first graders become informed global citizens and lifelong news readers.
Students would use the videos that accompany the magazines to build background knowledge. They would also participate in close reading activities to build comprehension, fluency, and academic vocabulary. Furthermore, Scholastic News and Science Spin would deepen my students' knowledge and understanding of the importance of people, events, and issues in the news.
