My Students

We LOVE to cook in my culinary arts classroom. Keeping up with the daily demands can be a challenge, but I think it's so important to expose my kids to a variety of different foods, many of which they have never had before.

I teach high school culinary arts in the Bronx.

We have a huge level of student interest in my class and I think it's important to expose my kids to everything. When I met them in the beginning of the year, they had no idea what the word entree meant and from that point on, I knew they needed a lot of exposure. As a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, I try and turn key everything I have learned to expose them to different types of cooking and cuisine.

My Project

My students need pasta machine attachments, accessories for pasta making, laundry detergent to keep our aprons clean and chocolate making supplies for a dessert I want to teach them to make as well. These supplies are so difficult to come by. The single vendor we are allowed to use at school does not give us access to machines or equipment, so buying something like this is nearly impossible. We are on such a limited budget and this project would be a HUGE help to our classroom.

I love my students and I pride myself on giving them access to the best!

How else are they truly going to learn? Many of them have found a niche in cooking, something they see themselves doing as a career. With so many specialty based high schools in New York City, I think it is so important to give our kids exposure NOW, so they can figure out things they might want to do in the future.
