My Students
Out of room! Our class library is growing, but where to put it? We've given up precious library space for our laptops, and now we need to re-think. In addition, the computers need individual storage spaces to keep them safe and functioning.
Twenty-nine 4th grade students from diverse cultural backgrounds attend a math/science/technology magnet elementary school in an urban area of California.
Over 70% of the students have been identified as disadvantaged (Title I). The students communicate with each other, and the teacher, via written, oral, and artistic means. This happens through the enrichment activities that reach beyond basic textbooks, including the use of projects, communication with experts in various fields (face-to-face or through video conference), access to technology resources, expanded reading experiences such as book clubs and literature circles, and problem solving scenarios.
My Project
Twenty-nine 4th graders. Twenty-nine laptops. Four iPads. A largesse of riches, which needs gentle treatment. Students are supposed to touch their own computers only, but this becomes complicated, since they are stacked in twos, and tightly fitted into cramped bookcase spaces, not intended for computer storage. This organizer I am requesting will provide a safe haven for each laptop.
With 29 students, space is extremely tight.
This unit will provide a much needed home for laptops, allow for us to continue growing our classroom library, and move more freely in the class.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
