This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a California Gold Ribbon Distinguished school. For many of my students, my classroom is their first school experience. My students are primarily Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten aged children. Eighty-nine percent of students at our school come from low-income households. All students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Even with all the obstacles they face at home, these young learners are eager to learn new things every day. All come with inquisitive minds ready to be challenged and encouraged to become the leaders of tomorrow!
My Project
My TK/K students would benefit from having cubbies in the classroom. Each student would have a place to put their belongings in the class. Having their own space would give them a sense of belonging in the classroom environment.
The cubbies would allow for more space at their tables.
Currently, they keep all their belongings at their table site. It would be beneficial for their tables to be less cluttered. They would have more space to be able to work without worrying about dropping things all over the place.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
