My Project
We teach a group of amazing, curious, and hardworking general and special education students in first grade. About forty percent of our students have a range of disabilities, some of which include learning disabilities, physical disabilities, emotional disturbances, speech and language impairments, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Like any other class, our students' abilities and interests span across a wide spectrum. All of our students require individual or small group attention. Each day, we incorporate all of their learning styles, interests, and special education accommodations into our lessons. Some of our students prefer visual or auditory cues for learning, while some require a more kinesthetic or tactile approach. Our students come into our classroom each day with a love of school and a desire to grow as a learner.
This year, we want to teach our students how to give back to our community; we will do this by writing letters to community workers, visiting local shops, planting gardens, and going on neighborhood walks to keep a tidy environment.
With the help of these storage benches, we will be able to store all of the tools and materials for these different projects. In addition to honing in on the importance of giving back, it will also teach our students key life skills such as organization and responsibility.
