My project needs a field microscope, hard hats, compasses and a clinometer to accurately complete field studies in forest management.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. M.'s classroom raised $477

I am an agriculture teacher in a small rural school in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. As part of the curriculum, I have a wonderful 110 acres section of Bear Spring Mountain to "cruise". I utilize this curriculum piece in 3 courses: AP Science, Environmental Science and Forestry.
I am slowly working to increase the amount of forestry equipment I have available to my students. As numbers in the program increase I am forever trying to equipment them all. I am currently seeking a field microscope, 5 hardhats, 5 compasses and a clinometer for field studies. I will utilize the requested equipment year around and it will serve approximately 100+ students.
I have the unique opportunity to take my students out of a traditional classroom setting and get them out in the great outdoors. I instill in them a sense of stewardship and appreciation for the forest and all that's in it. Too often we don't take a look around and appreciate what is there.
In my program students learn to manage the forest for specific uses: timber, wildlife or recreation. All the time we are doing units, they are learning to appreciate what is around them as well as academic and scientific requirements. "Cruising" my way may make them sweat but the hike up the mountain is worth it!
