My Students
The crucibles that we currently have are too small and the contents will boil over and spatter out for an experiment that I obtained from a conference this summer.
My chemistry students are in a high-needs public high school in New York.
The students are hard workers and try to do their best. They deserve equipment and materials that will allow them to get the desired results and ultimately the proper answer to the question posed in the lab.
My Project
My students will be able to do a lab obtained this summer at a conference. There are two major steps involved that permit the student to deduce the composition of their unknown salt. The first step requires heating the dry powder and the second step requires heating after the addition of an acid. Unfortunately with the crucibles we have, the sides are too short and the residue that remains spatters out and "creeps" up the sides of the crucible. The crucibles requested have higher sides that should prevent this issue!
My students work very hard to carry out procedures properly and to obtain the desired results.
Imagine their frustration when their experiment goes awry because their product is splattered all over the lab bench! Please help my students obtain the best results that they can!
