About My Students
Gracie, Valerie, and Grant are students at our High School. They have recently started A Live Stream Channel via YouTube Live.
Valerie is our camera operator and is a leader within our classroom. Grant is our audio engineer and commentator. He makes sure our mics are clear and in place. Gracie is our executive producer. She ties it all together and makes sure our streams are successful. She plans on pursuing broadcasting as a career and decided this was the time to start getting experience.
The students are hoping to use their channel to bring the community in to their school. We are a consolidated district and our community is scattered through several surrounding towns. Many of our families have to work during and after school hours and we hope to be able to bring all of our school events to them. This project is a chance for students to get real problem solving experience and team work not found in a traditional classroom.
This project is a way for students to show their skills in a real way other than classwork. Just as sport teams are able to showcase the abilities on the field, our LiveStream team shows their skills with every broadcast.
In Their Own Words
While have a small group at the moment, we are planning to build an entire program around our channel. We are recruiting additional commentators, camera operators, and looking to start a internship program, that ensures the continuation of the program once we graduate. We want this project to show that even though we are at a small, rural school, we have the ability to create something big!
Most of use were not leaders when we started this project. It's a role that has had a learning curve for us. Mr. Blake has helped us when we had struggles, but this has largely been an accomplishment we had to work for. We had to learn to plan with school administrators and contact other schools and promote our channel. We have learned that all of the pieces of our team has to work together in order for it to function.
Our project is looking to solve the problem of community. At our school we are encouraged to engage in our communities, but our school is located 3 miles from the nearest town in the middle of a bean field. Our students come from 4 different towns and as our sense of community is confusing to say the least. To many of us our school is our community, but we hope to change that. It's our hope that we can bring more attention to all our school has to offer through this project.
